Kommeno is one of the most popular areas of the island where the holiday homes of many local and foreign, financially privileged families are located. It is only twelve kilometers from the city centre, whilst its strategic location in the centre of the island, allows visitors easy access to either the south or the northern part of Corfu.

At the end of the road leading into Kommeno, is one of the most photographed attractions on Corfu, the chapel of Ypapantis, which is connected to the mainland by a narrow strip of land. From afar it looks like the chapel is actually floating on the water.

The chapel is one of the most popular choices for weddings or christenings, by locals and visitors alike.

Kommeno means ‘cut’. One could easily assume that the name of the area comes from the fact that in order to enter it one feels that one is cut off from the rest of the island. The name could also, obviously, be due to the “cut” off piece of land on which the famous church stands.

Kommeno is essentially located on a verdant peninsula and is characterized by incredible natural beauty, to which the always well-manicured gardens of its residences contribute as well. Access is via a narrow road, with a traffic light, that allows one way traffic in both directions. Along this narrow road are many of the most luxurious villas on the island.

It is a quiet area where there are few nightclubs or frenetic entertainment. For those who wish to spend the night pubbing and clubbing, the neighbouring areas of Gouvia or Dassia, which are a few minutes drive away, can facilitate.

With regard to food; there are a wide variety of tavernas, restaurants and snack bars, where one can enjoy Greek and local specialties, a variety of dishes and other international cuisines.

Kommeno is an ideal tourist destination, providing high quality services and has many accommodation options ranging from luxury hotels and villas to rental apartments.
It is an oasis of peace and beauty, which, due to its location combines calm and fun, guaranteeing unforgettable summer holidays.

The beach

Kommeno beach is a sandy beach with clear blue waters and wonderful views of both the Church of Ypapantis and the idyllic landscape around it. It has umbrellas and sunbeds for rent and in the surrounding area you will find several tavernas and snack bars where you can savour a meal after enjoying the water. The beach has been awarded a Blue Flag and is the ideal destination for those who prefer the quiet and peaceful hospitality of the island during their vacation.
